Graham: A Whittaker Brothers Novel (Christmas in Coral Canyon™ Book 1) Kindle Edition
Graham Whittaker returns to Coral Canyon a few days after Christmas—after the death of his father. He's just found out his long-time girlfriend in Seattle has been cheating on him, and while Coral Canyon isn't his first choice of where to live, it's certainly the friendliest. He takes over the energy company his dad built from the ground up and buys a high-end lodge to live in—only a mile from the home of his once-best friend, Laney McAllister.
Laney returned to her family ranch after college, but her husband left Laney and their daughter, Bailey, to work the ranch themselves, which they've been trying to do. But with her furnace on the brink of failure and the snow falling faster than ever, Laney agrees to bring Bailey up to Graham's lodge for the holidays.
They were best friends once, but Laney's always entertained feelings for him, and spending so much time with him while they make Christmas memories puts her heart in danger of getting broken again.
Can they take their friendship to the next level and build a family? Or will Laney be risking her heart only to remain in the friend zone?

- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2019I tend to shy away from books with Millionaire/Billionaire in the title. I’m not sure why, except that the one book I tried reading (title forgotten) was so contrived, I couldn’t finish it. But this is a Liz Isaacson book and I’ve never gone wrong with one of her books, so I decided to give it a try. Plus it was free on Amazon Kindle Unlimited so nothing to lose.
I am so glad I picked it up. In fact, after I finished it, I paid for the rest of the series. (I tend to do that – get the book on Kindle Unlimited and if I like it, buy it and any sequels.)
Graham Whittaker’s father recently died, and Graham has been tasked with the role of CEO of the family’s energy company in Wyoming. He has left his high-tech job Seattle, along with the memory of his cheating girlfriend, and come home to Coral Canyon, his new job, and his new home, the former bed and breakfast, Whiskey Mountain Lodge.
Laney Boyd McAllister and her daughter Bailey are now Graham’s neighbors, but Laney had been Graham’s best friend in high school. This is a romance novel, so you can guess where the relationship is going, but it’s not a trite, straight road. Laney is struggling to keep her family's ranch afloat. Graham is willing to help her but she's a proud Boyd and isn't going to give up.
As usual with books by Liz Isaacson, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, its ups and downs in the relationship and recommend it as a good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2019Graham is struggling in the aftermath of his father's death as well as other personal problems, and Laney is feeling overwhelmed by her single mom situation & fighting bitterness along with an increasing temptation to despair.
The story's pace felt real & the developing relationship between them realistic, though their friendship didn't seem like former besties. That realism did lead to the story feeling a little slow at times
The main characters are well developed & believable. Graham clearly has an "engineer's brain" which tends to be very efficient - point A to point B - but also tends to get overly absorbed in its own thoughts, and can frequently be oblivious to the obvious, as well as bad at normal communication & social interactions.
Laney was a strong woman with many admirable qualities of her own, but I do get frustrated with characters of the "too independent to ask for or accept help" trope, especially when there's a child involved.
Which means Laney has communication issues of her own & they both have too much pride, but I liked that they learned to put it aside & put "people before things".
I have to agree with other reviewers that leaving Mike's storyline unresolved was odd, & there were a few minor issues but overall the story was believable. I liked when Laney told off Graham that she & Bailey deserved to be 1st & wouldn't settle for less - that's real love - and that Graham was willing to do what he needed to to show Laney how much he loved her.
*Clean romance level: sweet kisses
*Religion: generically Christian, some occasional brief prayers to God for help, but nothing preachy
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2024Liz Isaacson has written a thoroughly delightful and warm story about what is really important in life: family and friends. She writes about how to let each person understand we care about them and our dedication to remind them that they are important to us.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2021This is the first in a couple of fabulous series that take place in Coral Canyon and Whiskey Mountain Lodge. The characters feel compelling and real, despite being down to earth billionaires that don't care about money. Start here and you will want to read the stories of the whole Whittaker family, then move on to the Hammonds. Each book can stand on its own, but once you meet them, you will want to follow their stories and love having the characters show up in future books. Clean and fun romance, with a hint of faith. Just remember, as always, to get your theology from the Bible, not romance novels.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2020I liked Graham and Laney 's story. But considering they were starting off a new relationship in their 40's it's quite boring they start off holding hands then sneak kisses like their 16 years old. Not enough hot romance and written details for me. When I read romantic books I want it detail oriented and written for an adult. This is geared gives 13 year old girl. Ending was rushed and no idea if she had a girl or boy 😬
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2024DARN! I was hoping this story would have concluded only after the wedding and details awaiting their bundle of joy. After all, it's based on Christmas and good friends coming together in love.
I'm sure, in Book 2, we will find out the sex of the baby and find out what Eli and Meg have up their sleeves. Gone are the power play suits and on come the cowboy boots.
Enjoy and happy reading!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2024Graham Whitaker moves back to Whiskey Mountain Lodge after the passing of his father to run the the family energy company and look after the lodge. When he takes an impromptu walk around the property he stumbles upon a home not far from the lodge and finds it's his long time friend Laney McAllister who runs Echo Ridge Ranch after the passing of her father. Laney has had feelings for Graham for a very long time and got over him when he left for the tech business years ago. This is a great story about reconnection of friends, faith and love.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2024Seems like the characters are realistic. I accidentally bought this twice because I have it as part of an anthology and as a standalone. The billionaire aspect seems kind of incidental. He works really hard. Yes, his money softened the edges of his life, but he doesn’t take it easy. It seems like the money allows him to be sort of ‘beast like’—he’s not used to having to consider anyone else’s preferences or opinions. Good thing his friend from his school days knows how to yank the reins and get him to change his focus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean Romance
Graham Whittaker returns to Coral Canyon a few days after Christmas—after the death of his father. He takes over the energy company his dad built. He buys a lodge to live in and it happens to be only a mile from the home of the best friend he grew up with, Laney McAllister. Laney is living as a single parent on her family ranch. They meet up, spend some time together, but Graham is busy getting to know the ins and outs of the company he is now running and works long hours. The next Christmas is coming up and Graham plans to have all of his family come to the lodge. When Laney is in need, Graham suggests she come to the lodge for the festivities. They have lots of things to work out. Can their friendship survive? Can they move beyond friendship? A good book to curl up with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Chances
I loved the characters who were instantly likeable. I could identify with the story background. Childhood friends who grew apart as life and opportunities took them further and further away from each other. But roots have a way of pulling you back. Sad events bring them back into each others sphere of existence and their circumstances could not be more different she is struggling to keep her head above water and He has nine zeros in his bank account. Just as their relationship is blossoming from friendship to something more he is pulled away for an urgent conference, feeling abandoned yet again she vows to get on with her life and leave all thoughts of Graham aside. Realising his mistake he vows to put her and her daughter first. Saying sorry is the first step to their second chance at love and happiness. Thoroughly good read couldn't put it down
